Howitzers

Picture
Howitzers were short range cannons. They were sometimes pulled into battle by horses. These cannons used either smooth lead balls or small projectiles as ammo. Howitzers were used against army personnel when the British got to close to the American troops.

The ten inch seacoast Howitzers, which were used against the navy, had a firing range of about one thousand six hundred yards. The eight inch siege howitzers, which were used during sieges to bring down walls, had a firing range of about two thousand yards.
